Guest performances by the Stuttgart State Opera.

Guest performances at the museum.

In summer 2020 the artists of the Stuttgart State Opera will give guest performances at the Mercedes-Benz Museum with innovative presentation ideas and moving music: the events in June and July range from “1:1 concerts” and lively, moving promenade concerts to a performance by an ensemble of actors, dancers and musicians on the mound, from a mobile stage on an opera truck.

All the events will be staged so that applicable restrictions for preventing the spread of the coronavirus can be complied with. This attractive event series by the Stuttgart State Opera and the Mercedes-Benz Museum is particularly valuable at a time when many musical events have been cancelled owing to the coronavirus pandemic. Unfortunately, these also include several popular major events that are traditionally held by the Mercedes-Benz Museum.

Mercedes-Benz Museum, Legend Room 1: Pioneers – The Invention of the Automobile, 1886 to 1900. This is where the “1:1 concerts” will take place on 15 and 16 June 2020, in cooperation with the Stuttgart State Opera.

1:1 concerts.

Maintaining the requisite distance, yet at close proximity: in special areas, the “1:1 concerts” will bring individual music lovers together with musicians from the Stuttgart State Orchestra and the SWR Symphony Orchestra, the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra and the Frankfurt and Stuttgart Colleges of Music and Performing Arts. On 15, 16 and 18 June 2020 the new format will be presented in Legend Room 1 at the Mercedes-Benz Museum: Pioneers – The Invention of the Automobile, 1886 to 1900.

After their reception by the Museum team and a brief introduction, listeners will be taken individually to Legend Room 1 on Level 8 by lift. There they will be seated directly opposite the artist, at an appropriate distance. After a short pause the artist will begin playing for a maximum of 10 minutes – dependent on the listener and the situation. The guest will then be accompanied to ground level again. Those taking part in these “1:1 concerts” are requested to make a donation to the emergency fund of the German Orchestra Foundation. Enquiries for participation can be made via the website of the Stuttgart State Opera.

Moving music in the permanent exhibition.

A concert always moves music lovers on an emotional level. But what if you yourself are physically on the move as you enjoy the music? On three days from 23 to 25 June 2020, the Stuttgart State Opera will make this possible with its promenade concerts at the Mercedes-Benz Museum. Accompanied by a guide and in small groups, the public will visit several music stations in various areas of the Museum’s permanent exhibition – so comfortable footwear is recommended. In these areas, members of the Stuttgart State Opera ensemble, the International Opera Studio and the State Orchestra will perform extracts from their wide repertoire.

The State Opera and the Museum have jointly developed this format, whose focus on the history of mobility forms a dramatic contrast to the music. Each evening the promenade concert will consist of around 16 tours in very small groups. Entry is free after registering at tickets@staatstheater-stuttgart.de. The organisers request that donations be made to Förderverein der Staatstheater Stuttgart e.V., which is dedicated to the State Opera’s furtherance of children and adolescents.

A Soldier’s Tale.

For its concerts on the opera truck, the Stuttgart State Opera will bring its own stage to the Mercedes-Benz Museum: the artists, dancers and musicians of the Stuttgart State Opera will perform on a semitrailer positioned on the Museum mound. This will ensure a very special atmosphere for the maximum of 99 listeners per performance. There are two performances on 4 July 2020 (3 p.m. and 7 p.m.) and one on 5 July 2020 (7 p.m.), i.e. three performances in all. Tickets can be obtained in advance from the Stuttgart State Theatre, by telephone on +49 (0)711 202090 or online at www.staatsoper-stuttgart.de
